The Obesity Epidemic

According to CDC, 18.5% of the youth in the United States have been classified as overweight or obese.

Millions of Americans suffer from obesity, a serious condition that puts people at risk for a myriad of other health problems like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, etc (CDC). Though treatable, obesity is a stubborn disease that also affects children. Childhood obesity is even more alarming because it can predispose children to adult obesity. One study found that an obese child is 5x more likely to be obese as an adult than a child who is not obese (Simmonds et al., 2015). Thus, a child’s health must be prioritized and regulated to prevent lifelong health issues. Obesity in children can be prevented through proper nutrition and adequate physical activity. Recognizing obesity risk factors will also allow readers to take precautions and resist the odds. Our website hopes to inform readers on the dangers of obesity and encourage them to improve their children’s diets and lifestyles.
